The Lewis Mark III was a design dating from the First World War. It saw use only in a few obsolescent models of Allied aircraft, having been replaced by the Vickers K gun and then by heavier caliber weapons. However, the Japanese Navy variant, the Type 92, was widely used as a flexible mounted aircraft weapon.
