Masampo (128.57E 35.19N) is a port with a large sheltered anchorage on the south coast of Korea. The port became a flash point for tensions between the Russians and Japan in 1898, as the two powers competed to buy land around the port, which was the ideal location for a naval base. War was averted mostly because of the distraction of the Boxer Rebellion.
When war broke out in the Pacific, the port was the
headquarters of Chinkai Guard District and had
a naval air station with 6 E7K Alf.
