The Japanese Type 93 hydrophones
used sixteen receivers in two elliptical arrays on opposite sides of
the keel. Each receiver was 145mm in diameter and had a sensitivity of
35 decibels.
The design was based loosely on the American MV hydrophone, which was imported in 1930.
