Semarang (110.42E 6.98S) was the third city of Java, with a population of about 217,800 persons, of whom about 15,000 were Europeans. It was located in the middle of the north coast.
II.Division
was headquartered here when war broke out in the Pacific, and the
city had a commercial airfield.
