Magdalena Bay (112.100W 24.783N) is a large anchorage protected by barrier islands on the coast of Baja California. Curiously, it played a major role in some prewar U.S. Navy plans for a war against Japan, as an assembly point for ships passing through the Panama Canal from the Atlantic. Just how this would play against Mexican neutrality was never explained.
It is a major breeding area for Pacific grey whales.
